With the current climate over the past few weeks, it’s been more important than ever to keep in touch with friends, family and work colleagues. One of the biggest viral hits has been the House Party app, owned by Epic Games (who are also the creators of the popular game Fortnight). However, you may be concerned to hear rumors spreading like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook about the video calling app being compromised. And users are frantically trying to work out how to delete the HouseParty App.
If you are concerned about these rumors, have had your security breached. Or if you just fancy just deleting your HouseParty account then here are the steps how.
How to Delete & Remove HouseParty App
Depending on the device you have the HouseParty App downloaded will determine the process you will follow. In the video tutorial, I will show you how to delete and remove HouseParty from an iPhone and Andriod device. Also, I go through some alternatives to HouseParty, such as Zoom Video Conferencing.
How to Delete the HouseParty App on iPhone
If you’re using House Party from an iPhone, go across to the main House Party screen within your app. Then head over to the icon in the top left-hand side of the screen that looks like a face.
From the next screen, press onto the pink settings/cog icon in the top left-hand side of the screen.
Head down to the section named ‘Privacy‘. And from here you’ll have the option to ‘Delete Account’.
Now it does state that if you delete your account you will never (in capital letters) get it back. And this is partly true. But if you did want to, you could essentially just go through the sign-up process again!
Once your account has been deleted, you’ll also need to remove the app from your iPhone too. And this can be done by pressing and holding onto the app from your Home screen. Then select Delete App.
If you are deleting your account due to your privacy being compromised. Then you’ll need to make sure that you change your passwords to any associated accounts too.
How to Delete the HouseParty App on Android & Desktop
If you’re using the House Party app on an Android or using the desktop app. Unfortunately, you don’t have access to delete the app yourself. Therefore, you have to send an email to House Party support to do this for you.
Then in the body of your email, you’ll need to ask for them to immediately delete your account. And ensure that you include your full name, HouseParty username, email address, and phone number in your message.
How to Protect Your Online Privacy
If you are concerned about your online privacy and want to find out ways that you can help to protect it, then here are some ways to start.
Implementing a VPN
A VPN, such as my preferred supplier ExpressVPN, is a privacy and security tool that creates a secure tunnel between your device and the internet. A VPN takes your internet connection and helps you stay anonymous whilst making your internet more secure and protecting your online traffic from snooping, interference, and censorship.
You should also use a VPN when Connecting to an open/public WiFi hotspot which are areas where you get free WiFi. Data on public networks are not encrypted between your computer and the hotspot. So it’s open for anyone to access your private information.
Using A Password Manager
One of the best ways to protect your online privacy is by creating unique passwords for each account. I understand trying to remember all these individual passwords can be tricky without again compromising your security. So one way to get around this is by using a password manager such as LastPass. With LastPass, you can generate strong secure passwords for every account that you use and best of all is that they are all stored for you, without you needing to remember them all.
Enabling 2 Factor Authentication
Other best security practices are to turn on 2-factor authentication for any applications or accounts that support it. This could be the likes of a text alert of using an app such as Google Authenticator to provide you with a 1-time code.
If you are interested in finding HouseParty alternatives where you can do more than just video chat then here are some similar platforms and applications.
Zoom is a video conferencing service which is also free of charge. This allows you to host more than HouseParty’s party of 8 and you can host up to 100 people on their platform. You can do similar things such as sharing screens and documents, creating group face to face chats, as well as sending messages through their chat platform.
JustTalk is simple, safe and extremely fun video chat for Android and iOS. Great for larger groups of up to 50, plus you can draw and share doodles, stickers and photos in real-time. Or challenge your friends in enjoyable games during the call.
With Squad you can hang out with your friends and screen share your favourite apps to chat, shop or watch YouTube videos together. Squad is available to download from the AppStore or GooglePlay ioS and Android and supports calls with up to 6 people.
Airtime is a social streaming platform. Letting you co-listen or co-watch videos with 6 of your friends pulling in things from the likes of YouTube and Spotify to your call.
Bunch is another app where you play your favourite games with friends over group video chat. This app is available for Android and ios.
Then the somewhat forgotten and yet one of the first video chat platforms available was Skype and is also a great alternative.
If you’re unable to attend a physical meeting, then Zoom video conferencing is a great way to host online meetings. Although initially created for business, the scope for video conferencing is now a lot more varied and the likes of Zoom can also be used for training courses, classrooms, video webinars, troubleshooting and so much more!
Not only that, but Zoom no longer needs to be just used for business purposes. You could also catch up with family and friends using the Zoom video communications. And you can do a lot just by using the free/basic version. However, if you do need to host large online meetings or meetings lasting anything over 40 minutes you can also upgrade to their paid business packages.
Zoom can be used with any device. So whether you’re joining using a laptop or mobile device you can catch up with your friends, family and work colleagues from literally anywhere.

Most modern laptops come with inbuilt cameras so that you simply enable video conferencing. This is perfect if you’re from Australia living and working abroad, backpacking or simply on a short break from home wanting to catch up on the latest shows, dramas or sports events.
What is Geo-Blocking?
If you’ve tried watching soaps like Home & Away, or live sport such as the NRL & AFL from another country previously you may be used to the familiar message that the program is not supported in this country or region. This is geo-blocking and is the system used to limit your access to the internet, based on your geographic location.
How Does a Geo-Blocking VPN work?
A VPN or Virtual Private Network tunnels your internet traffic through an intermediary server located in a country that you choose. It can also hide your IP address and replaces it with one from the country you have chosen, making it look like your in that country. A VPN also encrypts all your traffic so that it is hidden, even from your internet service provider.
Why Do They Do This?
TV Broadcasters don’t have the international rights to show their shows abroad. This isn’t limited to Australian broadcasters either, the same goes for Canada, America, England etc.

When you log into your streaming site, your location will appear like you are in Australia. Therefore you will have access to all the shows you want.
There are a whole host of VPNs you can use for unblocking Australian shows and live TV.ExpressVPN is my top pick and you’ll find further information about ExpressVPN below. Beware broadcasters do blacklist IP Addresses, so choose a VPN provider with a wide range of servers/locations to choose from.
