How to Connect Trust Wallet to DApps & PancakSwap

In a recent Trust Wallet tutorial, we explained how to add the DApp Browser to the Trust Wallet, which had been previously removed to comply with the new Apple app store guidelines. However, a further Apple update has now stopped this workaround from working.

In this tutorial, I show you how to connect Trust Wallet to DApps like PancakSwap? Well, the below guide will help you to connect DApps with your Trust Wallet using WalletConnect instead of using the DApp browser. WalletConnect can be used to connect to the likes of PancakeSwap or SushiSwap via mobile or desktop.

What is the Trust Wallet DApp Browser?

Trust Wallet browser is a fully functional Web3 browser that can be used to interact with any DApp. Plus it provides a simple and secure connection between you and any Binance Smart Chain or Ethereum based DApps. Including the likes of PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, and UniSwap.

Binance acquired the secure and intuitive mobile app back in 2018, as the company’s first acquisition.

Why was the DApp Browser Removed from Trust Wallet?

The DApp Browser was removed (for iOS users) within Trust App in June 2020 to comply with the new Apple app store guidelines. All apps on iOS must conform to a certain set of guidelines to be able to be listed in their App Store.

Unfortunately, Dapps, are deemed as “code not embedded in the (app) binary” and therefore need to meet criteria to be allowed in an iOS app.

DApp Browser Removal on iOS version of Trust Wallet

Although the Trust Wallet team tried to resolve this issue they had to remove the feature from future releases of the app.

Many users (including Every Bit Helps) found a solution by adding the Dapp Browser back to the Trust App. However, following Apple’s latest update this hack is no longer possible.

Now, for iOS users to be able to connect Trust Wallet to PancakeSwap and other DApps, you’ll need to use the WalletConnect feature.

What is WalletConnect?

WalletConnect is an open-source protocol, supported by many different decentralized applications and wallets. Allowing users to connect decentralized applications (Dapps) to mobile wallets by scanning a QR code with your mobile phone camera.

Users can then interact securely with any Dapp using their mobile (without having to use an inbuilt Dapp Browser) just as long as the app supports WalletConnect.
