With the current climate over the past few weeks, it’s been more important than ever to keep in touch with friends, family, and work colleagues. One of the biggest viral hits has been the House Party app, owned by Epic Games (who are also the creators of the popular game Fortnight). However, you may be concerned to hear rumors spreading like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook about the video calling app being compromised. And users are frantically trying to work out how to delete the HouseParty App.

If you are concerned about these rumors or even had your security breached. We have put together a guide on how to delete and remove Houseparty from your phone. Plus Houseparty alternatives you can use instead.

Depending on the device you have the HouseParty App downloaded will determine the process you will follow. If you’re using House Party from an iPhone, go across to the main House Party screen within your app. Then head over to the icon in the top left-hand side of the screen that looks like a face.

Head down to the section named ‘Privacy‘. And from here you’ll have the option to ‘Delete Account’.

Now it does state that if you delete your account you will never (in capital letters) get it back. And this is partly true. But if you did want to, you could essentially just go through the sign-up process again!

How to Protect Your Online Privacy

If you are concerned about your online privacy and want to find out ways that you can help to protect it, then here are some ways to start.

Implementing a VPN

A VPN, such as my preferred supplier ExpressVPN, is a privacy and security tool that creates a secure tunnel between your device and the internet. A VPN takes your internet connection and helps you stay anonymous whilst making your internet more secure and protecting your online traffic from snooping, interference, and censorship.

You should also use a VPN when Connecting to an open/public WiFi hotspot which are areas where you get free WiFi. Data on public networks are not encrypted between your computer and the hotspot. So it’s open for anyone to access your private information.

Using A Password Manager

One of the best ways to protect your online privacy is by creating unique passwords for each account. I understand trying to remember all these individual passwords can be tricky without again compromising your security. So one way to get around this is by using a password manager such as LastPass. With LastPass, you can generate strong secure passwords for every account that you use, and best of all is that they are all stored for you, without you needing to remember them all.

Enabling 2 Factor Authentication

Another best security practices are to turn on 2-factor authentication for any applications or accounts that support it. This could be the likes of a text alert of using an app such as Google Authenticator to provide you with a 1-time code.

If you are interested in finding HouseParty alternatives where you can do more than just video chat then here are some similar platforms and applications.
